What does the world need? Many people’s immediate response would be love. Although that’s not my generation, I do think it’s incredibly important. However, I believe there’s more to it than that and maybe the question should be; What can we give to the world? I just want to focus on a couple of things here that may inspire you.
The world needs…
- Fear of God
Proverbs 1:7 says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…”. The book of Ecclesiastes talks about how the whole duty of man is to fear God and keep His commandments. Fear may sound like a negative thing but what we’re talking about here is honor, respect and reverence. That isn’t very common these days. In fact, those who do honor God are put down and bad-mouthed. Fear of God is about realizing His awesomeness and living in response to it.
- Strong morals
It’s easy for us to let go of our strong morals when there’s a lot of peer pressure or when things look better on the other side. But, what this world needs is people who can stand up for what they believe in, people who don’t chicken out when their faith or actions are challenged. You can set a great example for others by living in a God-honoring way despite all the pressure to the contrary.
Let’s face it. Satan wants to rip families apart and he’s doing a pretty good job of it. Society pushes for individualism, our culture pushes for non-traditional relationships, and our everyday activities pull us further and further from our families. What used to be a fully functioning family unit, is now a couple of people who hardly know each other, going all different directions in a big strange world. I am very blessed to be home-schooled and have a really close family that has always been there for me. I understand that not many have such circumstances, but you can do what you can where you are. God created family and it is a sacred thing that we should fight for.
“More of God and less of me.” It’s a phrase often used to describe one’s all-out devotion to God and that’s definitely something that’s lacking in today’s culture. We tend to think about ourselves more than anything and put God on the “back-burner”, so to speak, in our lives. But in order for that to change, we have to really understand the Gospel. The Creator God came to earth, died for a bunch of dirty sinners, and offered them an eternity in his mansion (heaven). When you get that, you can’t help but be so filled with gratitude that your desire becomes to love, serve and give to others.
Do you know what would happen if everyone just sat back and said “Let George do it.”? Absolutely nothing would happen, nothing good at least. Where would the world be without the numerous “nobody’s” who stepped out of their comfort zone to change their little corner of the world? As my mom always says, “See what needs to be done and do it”. Find a way that you can make a difference.
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
There’s an awesome song by Matthew West called “Do Something” (below) that I find so inspiring.
