Stars, Stripes and Sacrifice

{Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve posted on here. Okay, maybe I’m not sorry. It’s been good to have some time away from the computer. Time with family. Time to read books. Time in the outdoors. Time to workout. Time to enjoy the little things. But I’m going to try to get back into blogging again.}

You know what makes me sad?

When young people don’t have a clue what the colors and the stars and stripes on our flag represent.

It’s important to remember the freedom that was fought for and won by men so long ago and continues to be bought by brave soldiers today.

There’s something else, something bigger, a greater sacrifice that most people don’t remember either, much less celebrate.

When I think of the stars and stripes, I think about the “Light of the world” who suffered stripes and bled to death on a spiritual battlefield, paying the price for our souls.

His sacrifice made it possible for us to enjoy the liberty we have.

Paul says in 2nd Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

This weekend as you enjoy the parades, fireworks, red-white+blue popsicles, etc…

Remember the stars and stripes and the reason we celebrate.

Remember the One who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Celebrate the gift of liberty. Have a great 4th of July!

    Thanks Moriah! Praise God for the freedom we have In Christ; for the greatest victory ever won when God won the victory over sin and death.

    • Thanks Hannah! I remember reading that verse for the first time a few years ago and being amazed at how we see that truth around us every day.
