To introduce our challenge for this week (and I’m sorry I’m a day late with this), I want to bring up a first world problem…
Columbia University professor and author Martin Blank PhD says this: “Cells in the body react to EMFs (electromagnetic fields) as potentially harmful, just like to other environmental toxins… The DNA in living cells recognizes electromagnetic fields at very low levels of exposure; and produces a biochemical stress response… we must protect ourselves from exposure to EMF due to power lines, cell phones and the like, or risk the known consequences.”
There’s so much research that shows not only how detrimental these electromagnetic waves can be for our health, but how prevalent our exposure to them has become. We are stuck in a system that relies heavily on wifi and satelite connections. “Could we survive without it?” some might ask. Maybe we should be asking that question the other way around; “Can we thrive with it? Or are we barely surviving it?”
We have become a society that has confused it’s identity, that’s at war against itself, and that trades our most basic human rights for an existense based on self-gratification. The things that matter the least have become our greatest concern; status, possesions, temporary happiness and beauty. We have become content with a reality we should have never settled for. We’ve bowed to “gods” of this earth out of fear rather than standing for the one true God with boldness.
If there’s a possibility that our wonderful smart phones and internet servers are secretly killing us, think about all the other things we do as a part of this grand system that trick us into feeling happy and productive while inwardly we waste away. I’m not going to give you a list of things to stop doing or a guilt trip for doing them. I just want to get you thinking. And this is where my challenge comes in…
During 30 minutes of free time every day this week, get up. Unplug. Close your laptop. Disconnect the wifi. Leave your phone on the table. And get away from the chaos, the problems, the news, the drama. Spend a little time outdoors, alone, breathing in and breathing out. Forget to worry. Forget to compare yourself to others. Forget your deadlines for a few minutes. Just get away and have some time with God. You’ll see life with a whole new perspective and it’ll be so worth it.
