Finding Freedom in Submission

“The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking, still making little forward progress is because they haven’t yet come to the end of themselves. We’re still trying to give orders, and interfering with God’s work within us. ” ― A.W. Tozer

When we allow God to work in us, He in His wisdom can use us in ways we could never imagine, but we have to submit to Him.

Submission is not a thing often praised these days. Instead, freedom and self-esteem are thought of as more necessary. “Freedom”, as defined by our culture today is basically “the quality or state of being exempt from responsibility and able to choose one’s own way without restraint.” This is very appealing to people today, as it has always been, and in this day and age most young people are taught that there is no right and wrong, thus everyone should be able to do as they wish.

There is something extremely wrong with this interpretation of freedom and it has mislead many. To find a solution to this obvious problem, we must go back to the beginning. Why are we here?

Ultimately, we are here to bring glory to God (Isaiah 43:7, 1st Corinthians 10:41). But there is no way to do that if we are constantly seeking after our own desires and living for our own personal pleasure. The world’s kind of freedom is really slavery. If we want to fulfill our purpose in life and find true freedom, we must submit ourselves to God by sacrificing those things which draw us away from serving Him.
